Field · Parenting & family
Parenting and family apps, from a team that runs its own family app.
For startups, communities and foundations making products for parents: growth and development records, parenting classes, consultations with experts, family schedules or household finances.
This page describes what we can build. We have no client projects in this field to show yet; our example of the work is Mony, our own product.
Examples of what can be built
- Growth and development records
- Weight, height, immunisations and developmental milestones, recorded by parents and shareable with health workers if they wish.
- Parenting classes and communities
- Materials, class schedules, registration and payment in one place.
- Consultations with experts
- Appointments with psychologists, midwives or counsellors, with notes seen only by those entitled to see them.
- Family schedules and tasks
- Who does the school run, when the next doctor’s check-up is, and what needs packing for tomorrow, for two parents or the wider family.
- Household finances
- Like Mony, the family finance app we build and run ourselves.
What we consider from the start
- Children’s data and UU PDP
- Indonesia’s Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 27 of 2022, UU PDP) classes children’s data as specific personal data, and processing it requires the consent of a parent or guardian. We collect only what is needed and limit who can see it. This is not legal advice.
- More than one parent
- Two parents, grandparents or carers may need different access. Who sees what is decided at the design stage, not patched in later.
- Budget Android phones
- A small download, light pages, and screens that stay clear on small displays and weak signal.
- WhatsApp-friendly sign-up
- Invitations through a link sent on WhatsApp, so family members can join without confusing steps.
- Multiple languages, including right-to-left
- For families who use more than one language, including Arabic with right-to-left layout.
- A business model that does not sell data
- Mony runs on subscriptions, with no ads and no selling of data. We can help design a similar model for your product.
What we have already done in our own product
- Mony: a finance app for individuals and households, designed, built and run by the Candora team
- A 14-day trial with no card needed, then a monthly or yearly subscription
- Four languages, including Arabic with right-to-left layout
- No ads, no selling of data, and never asking for bank passwords
Common questions
Can you build a subscription app?
Yes. Mony itself uses a 14-day trial, then a monthly or yearly subscription. We discuss the right model for your product during mapping.
What about content from doctors or psychologists?
We build the tools. The accuracy of medical and psychological content stays the responsibility of the experts on your team, and the app can show who reviewed that content.
Can we start with a PWA and move to the Play Store later?
Yes. Many family products start with a PWA to test interest, then build a Flutter app once it is clear which features get used.
